Rehabilitation Program for Joint Replacement
Camp Trinity is a specialized program for knee and hip replacement patients. At Camp Trinity patients share the joint replacement experience in a group setting, from pre-operative education to post-operative rehabilitation. While at Camp Trinity, patients take part in activities such as group exercise, noon meals and learning how to get around a kitchen. Because joint replacement patients are not physically sick, unlike hospital patients, Trinity has an area for just patients during camp time.
Beginning with pre-operative education, campers are introduced to the group concept of education and exercise. After surgery, campers participate in physical therapy together in one large room. Family members or friends act as coaches and learn, along with the camper, how to do rehabilitative exercises and precautions that will speed the return to routine activities such as playing golf, gardening, or simply walking without pain. Learning rehabilitative coaching techniques helps family and friends more openly work with the camper after leaving the hospital.
Camp Trinity incorporates a team-approach to treatment, which involves an orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, occupational therapists, nurses, case managers and other professionals. Patients who undergo joint replacement surgery and participate in Camp Trinity are typically happier, which leads to better satisfaction and a better outcome from the joint replacement surgery.
