Non-Surgical Procedure

The endoscopy staff at Trinity Regional Medical Center provides both outpatient and inpatient services to people of all ages with digestive tract diseases. Our procedures are performed in a comfortable and convenient environment. Our experienced staff works hard to ensure patient comfort and privacy.

Endoscopy is a non-surgical procedure used to examine a person’s digestive tract.  Using an endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it, your doctor can view pictures of your digestive tract on a monitor.

Endoscopy Types

Upper endoscopy enables the physician to look inside the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (first part of the small intestine). The procedure might be used to discover the reason for swallowing difficulties, nausea, vomiting, reflux, bleeding, indigestion, abdominal pain, or chest pain.

During a colonoscopy, the endoscope can be passed into the large intestine (colon) through the rectum to examine this area. This procedure may be used to evaluate stomach pain, ulcers, digestive tract bleeding, changes in bowel habits (constipation or diarrhea) or polyps (growths in the colon).

Another form of endoscopy is called endoscopic retrograde cholangiopanreatiocography, or ERCP, which allows pictures of the pancreas, gallbladder and related structures.

A bronchoscopy is a procedure that allows your doctor to look at your airway.  The doctor can examine your throat, larynx, trachea and lower airways.
