Monitoring Your Child's Health
All students K – 8 in the Fort Dodge Community School District have the opportunity to participate in FREE health screenings. The health screens help THRIVE staff identify students in our community who have an increased risk for lifestyle related diseases. Based on the results of these screenings the THRIVE program offers additional education for those students at risk.
All measurements are non-invasive and are taken by certified professionals only. Once screenings are finished and data is compiled, parents receive a copy of their child’s results in the mail, along with any recommendations. All results remain confidential.
The following screenings are performed by THRIVE:
-
Body Mass Index – a measurement using the child’s height and weight
-
Waist and Hip Circumference
-
Blood Pressure
-
Acanthosis Nigracans – velvety, light-brown markings on the neck
-
Blood Glucose (only 5-8th grade)
