What to Expect

Meals

  • A menu will be given to you each morning so you can choose your meals.

  • If you are on a special meal plan, your nurse or a dietician will help you.

  • Meals are given three times a day. Snacks are also given. Ask your caregiver.

ID Wristbands

  • A wristband is used for patient identification purposes during your stay. For your safety, the wrist band must stay on your wrist until you leave the hospital.

Call Buttons

  • Every room has a nurse call button on the bed. If you have any questions on how to use the nurse call button, please ask your caregiver.

Smoking

  • Smoking by patients, visitors, or staff is NOT allowed in the hospital or on hospital grounds. Ask your caregiver for help to quit smoking.

Personal Items

  • Money, jewelry, and other valuables should be left at home. If such items are brought to Trinity, please tell the nurse so they can be put in a safe place. A receipt for items will be kept with the patient’s chart; valuables may be claimed when you leave the hospital. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items that are not locked in our safe.

  • Patients who wear dentures should ask for a denture cup to protect them when they are not in use.

  • Eyeglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aides should be kept in a case when not being worn. A case can be requested/provided.

  • If you lose something, please notify the staff immediately. We will make every effort to help you find it.

Telephone

  • A telephone is in all patient rooms.

  • You are allowed to place local calls. For a long distance call, you must use a calling card, a credit card, call collect or bill your call to your home phone.

  • The main number for Trinity Regional Medical Center is 515.573.3101.

  • Cell phones may be used in the hospital by patients and visitors. Do not use a camera phone to respect our patient’s privacy. When using a cell phone, visitors need to keep noise level low so other patients are not disturbed.

Television

  • TVs are in all patient rooms.

  • The control for the TV is on the bed. If you need help with your TV, please ask.
