Identifying osteoporosis is best done with a DEXA scan available at the Women's Center across from UnityPoint Health - Trinity. This test gives a bone density score which determines the level of bone loss. In addition to medication and dietary changes, exercise can be helpful in preventing bone loss and even help increase bone density.
Highland Park Center offers a comprehensive treatment program for those with low bone density. Resistance and postural exercises, balance training and proper body mechanics instruction are components of our program. A physician referral is needed to start the program.
