Reaching Kids in the Classroom
Happy Trails
Implemented in the fall of 2008, children in grades K - 4 now have access to marked walking trails within the playground areas of their school during recess time. Signage is posted to mark distance. The walking program is designed to motivate students to become more active during their recess time. Students experience goal setting and are encouraged to have a more active lifestyle.
Lunch Room Challenge (K-8)
Throughout the school year the students get to participate in a lunch room nutrition challenge. Each month a different healthy food is highlighted. Every time the child eats the healthy food they are able to sign up for a drawing. At the end of the month the drawing is held and prizes, that encourage physical activity, are given away.
