Real-Time Review of Organs via Sound Waves

Ultrasound imaging, also called sonography involves looking at body parts with sound waves to produce a picture on a monitor. Ultrasound does not use radiation (x-rays). The images are captured in real-time meaning they can show internal organ structures and movements while scanning. It also shows blood flowing through blood vessels.

Ultrasound can also be used to perform needle biopsies of certain organs such as liver and thyroid for laboratory testing to confirm the diagnosis of benign diseases or cancer.

Common ultrasound imaging procedures:
Abdomen, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and abdominal aorta.
