Recognizing Amazing Youth with Great Character
Annual Youth Character Awards recognize young people in grades 5- 12 grades who exhibit strength of character and whose actions both demonstrate and model continuous commitment to the Six Pillars of Character.
Local educators and youth leaders are asked to nominate young people who they feel are worthy of such an honor each year. All student nominees are sent a letter notifying them of their nomination with a contest entry form. We encourage nominators to submit names of several young people based on their strength of character.
Students are required to submit an essay including examples of how they live their life by at least one of the Six Pillars of Character and demonstrate their community involvement or volunteer service as it relates to that pillar. A Selection Committee judges the essays based on compelling content and understanding of character.
An Award Presentation Banquet to announce winners and to honor all student participants, sponsors, teachers, youth leaders and school officials is held at the conclusion of the contest. Winners receive cash awards and have their photo and essay printed in the local newspaper.
